WEYMOUTH, MA – This past weekend Arlington’s U10 and U12 took home gold medals in their first ever appearance at the Bay State Games held at the Union Point Sports Complex in Weymouth.
Arlington’s U10s swept through the competition, dropping one game to Ready Prep (5-10) but still managing to finish top of the five team table with wins against Mystic River (22-15), Wrentham (17-15) and Worcester (17-15) to claim Arlington’s the first gold of the day.
Meanwhile in the U12 division, Arlington finished second in their pool which was enough to send them to the semi final round. There, they shocked Worcester by a score of 24-14, securing a trip to the gold medal round. Finding themselves down but not out in the final match, Arlington dug deep and squeezed by NERC by a score of 15-14 claim a gold of their own.
Arlington’s U14s combined with the Ospreys and played under the Mystic River banner and started the day strong with a 29-19 win over NERC. In game two, they faced tournament favorites Island Rugby and though the score remained close, Mystics would ultimately fall 10-17 at the whistle. South Shore would later knock Mystic River out of the gold medal contention when their go ahead try was disallowed. In the bronze medal match, Mystic once again faced off against NERC. Emptying the tanks, they were able to finish strong, earning 3rd place overall by a score of 27-17 at the final whistle.
And so ended the summer season.
