CANTON, MA – Hoping to build on their successful debut at Flag Frenzy, Arlington Youth Rugby’s U12 team made the trip to the Irish Cultural Center in Canton for the Wolfhound’s Youth Rugby Tournament. But with several players absent, Arlington was forced to play true “Iron Man” rugby with no substitutes. Their first match up against the Wolfhounds turned out to be a back and forth match with Arlington down by a try in the final minutes, before a turnover led to two back to back tries for Arlington to take the win 30-25.
In their second match, Arlington faced South Shore. With a possible rivalry in the making, both teams were looking to get the upper hand against their Flag Frenzy foes. In the end, it was Arlington who was able to come out on top, squeaking by the Sharks by a narrow margin.
With no rest, Arlington jumped straight into the final match which once again pitted them against the Wolfhounds. Arlington played a hard game, but the heat and the weariness was beginning to take its toll. The Wolfhounds were able to build up quick 10 point lead going into halftime, adding another try early in the second half. But Arlington was not giving up and started to gain momentum, adding two tries of their own in short order with a little over a minute and a half left on the clock. Unfortunately, time was not on their side and the score remained 10-15 at the final whistle.
Still, it was a great showing for this developing club who has improved more and more with each training session and game. Next weekend they will head back to Quincy for the MYRO Spring Championship Tournament. Watch out MYRO… Arlington is coming for you!
